Helly guys I think if you have been following me on instagram you would know that I have been a fan of Tatcha for ages. I love the packaging, the scent, the formulas. Links below. This blog will be on their 2 primer products.

The brand launched the Silk Canvas balm version first, and I immediately bought that for myself. Lately they just launched a thinner version, the Liquid Silk Canvas, and I was lucky enough to receive a PR from them. So here are my reviews of both formulas.

First starting with the original, the Silk Canvas.

Here’s the brand’s description: The Canvas Filter Finish Protective Primer

Velvety priming balm of pressed silk smooths and makes makeup last longer while keeping it out of skin, helping to minimize clogged pores and breakouts.

This multi-tasking skin-protecting, makeup-perfecting primer for face, eyes and lips:

  • Blurs: Silk extracts feel nourishing on skin and instantly diminish the look of pores, fines lines and imperfections for the perfect canvas before makeup.

  • Primes: Silk powder makes makeup glide on more evenly and last longer, minimizing excess shine with a soft focus finish.

  • Protects: Protective barrier derived from botanicals acts as a barrier between makeup and skin, helping to minimize clogged pores that can lead to breakouts. Anti-pollution natural active ingredients fight immediate attack from environmental stressors and help support the skin's barrier function to act against future attack, visibly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and dullness.

  • Enhances: Pink and gold pearl helps even skin tone for a healthy look.

  • Anti-aging: Hadasei-3™, a trinity of Japanese superfoods, green tea, rice and algae, visibly restores youthful radiance.

Glide the spatula lightly across the top of balm. Dot with fingertips and massage into skin. A little goes a long way. Use a rice-sized amount for the whole face.

Can be used alone or with makeup. Apply after SPF, before any makeup. Suitable for use on face, eye and lips. Replace the lid tightly after each use.

They really mean it when they said little goes a long way. The first time I used it, I thought I was already using a small amount, and it was still too much. It spread easily, and didn’t feel too heavy on my skin.

I feel like this is a less silicony version of Benefit Porefessional. It felt more nourishing, and more like a face cream than Porefessional. It does set with a velvet finish like the description says. I think it would be good for mature skin or skin that needed more hydration. For me, it felt a little too heavy for humid weather, so I don’t really wear it on a daily basis, but I keep this for times when I needed something extra.

See? one small blot can cover the whole of my hand. It’s easier to spread than it looks.

And tada! Primed skin. You can clearly see from this photo that the back of my hand really looked flawless, and the lines on my hands are blurred.

Next, the Liquid Silk Canvas.

It feels like Tatcha has heard my opinion, and came out with a lighter version of the original balm version.

This primer is a watered down version of the balm, but it is not at all that light (and I don’t mean this in a bad way). It is not watery at all, it still retains that rich/nourishing feel like the balm version. It actually sets and gave the same feel as the balm version, despite the watery feel at first.

It’s not thick or sticky, but feels like a watered down heavy cream. To me, you don’t need both versions, just choose one. The balm should be better for mature skin, and the liquid for normal skin.
